Q&A for Pub Quiz League Championship

Question 1: How do we register?
Answer: You play. If you qualify for “Championship Points” at the end of a pub quiz, you will be asked to give a permanent team name, and name a team captain. Your points will then be recorded. There is no extra fee to enter the League Championship.

Question 2: We like to change our team name at each quiz. Can we still play for the League Championship?
Answer: Yes. When you first qualify for points, you will be asked to give a permanent team name. If you want to play under another name, tell the Quiz Master that you are “Permanent Team Name playing as ____________”. That way your points will be properly recorded. Just remember, that your points in the League Standing will be recorded under your permanent team name.

Question 3: Look, we really want to win the League Championship, and we suddenly realize that Bobby and Suzy don’t know Algeria from Alzheimer’s. We kicked them off the team. Now they are claiming to be the permanent team name. Can they really claim our points?
Answer: Sadly, some people do take their pub quizzes a bit too seriously. But as long as we get our €15, we tend to ignore the sociopathic tendencies of certain players. The permanent team captain is the constant of the team. Whoever he or she shows up with is the team.

Question 4: If the permanent team captain is the constant, does that mean the captain HAS to play every time?
Answer: No. But please don’t have a mutiny the week the permanent team captain isn’t at the pub.
Question 5: Will there be trophies this year?

Yes

Question 6: the spring pub quiz league has a first prize of €500. What gives?

There are 11 quizzes in the Fall, while there are 14-15 quizzes in the spring. more quizzes means more prize money.

Question 7: Some of these teams seem way ahead in the standings. I don’t thinkI can catch up! can I?

The league rewards winning. If you start winning quizzes, you catch up in no time.

question 8: You run a pub quiz. How big of a geek are you?

Answer: This big. there is a “Rome Pub Quiz Global” group at www.facebook.com. where league standings will be posted.

They will also be posted at http://romepubquiz.blogspot.com/

Pub Quiz Rules

Pub Quiz Rules
1. Each Quiz is made up of 10 Rounds, of around 10 questions each.
2. €15 a team. Up to 5 players on a team. If you have 6 people, you are two teams of 3. If they are at the table, they are playing!
3. Picture Rounds can be begun immediately.
4. Sound clues are played only twice.
5. Sheets are scored by opposing teams. Don't cheat, but don't be a jerk (spelling mistakes don't make an answer wrong, unless the QM says otherwise).
5. The Champion round is played by only one person, who switches tables for this portion of the quiz.
6. Answers have been verified by the Quizmaster, but feel free to argue!
7. Prizes - each quiz give out five bottles of whiskey to the first place team, five bottles of wine for the 2nd place team, and five T-shirts for the 3rd place team. Winners can trade down (i.e. if a member of the winning team wants to exchange whiskey for wine, he can).
The winner of the champion round also gets a bottle of whiskey/vodka/brandy/etc.
Prizes are given for Best Team Name, and Best Dressed Team, as well as for teams which amuse the Quizmaster in such a way he feels the need to throw chocolate at them.
8. There are limited tables at the Quiz. This affects Scholar's Lounge (about 20 places) more than Abbey Theatre (about 30).
Reservations for teams are made through e-mail - romepubquiz@yahoo.com.
In general, I try to keep track on Facebook, but it is impossible to know who is on whose team through Facebook (are those 5 people one team, are representing 5 different teams). So your table is confirmed when The Quizmaster sends you a e-mail of confirmation.
9. The Quizmaster does not work at either pub. Questions about food orders, drink orders, toilet paper, chairs with backs on them, etc., etc. should be directed to the staff of the pub.
10. The Quizmaster is always right, even in those rare instances when he is wrong.
